Barbara O’Dair Appointed Editor-in-Chief of Prevention

Rodale’s Flagship Brand to Debut New Ad-Free Model with July Issue (on newsstands June 16)

Rodale Inc., the world’s leading healthy, happy living company, today announced that Barbara O’Dair has been named Editor-in-Chief of Prevention. The announcement was made by Chairman and CEO Maria Rodale.

O’Dair joins Rodale from Reader’s Digest, where she has served as Executive Editor of the magazine and played an integral role in the creation of the brand’s digital applications. In her new role, she will oversee the editorial direction across all Prevention brand platforms, including the magazine’s editorial, digital, and mobile presence. Bringing 12 years of cross-platform editing experience, O’Dair will be at the helm of the company’s flagship brand as it ushers in a new business model and editorial vision.

“With the move to an ad-free business model, Prevention will be a magazine that today’s health-minded consumer wants, needs and will pay for; an authoritative and trusted source that breaks through the clutter and empowers people with the information they need to make decisions when it comes to personal or family health,” said Maria Rodale. “Barbara’s enthusiasm for our mission and reputation for editorial excellence will enable her to drive the new vision and success of this important brand.”

Said O’Dair: "I'm thrilled to lead this great brand in a new, transformative direction that will include investigative reports, reader voices, and innovative digital products. I'd like to thank Maria for the opportunity to build upon Prevention's status as a must-read for healthy living."

Prior to joining Reader’s Digest, O’Dair served as Executive Editor of More magazine. Previously, she served in a number of key editorial positions, including Senior Editor on the launch team at Entertainment Weekly, Deputy Editor of Rolling Stone, Editor of US magazine, Executive Editor of Details and Harper's Bazaar, Managing Editor at Teen People and Editor, Time Inc. Interactive. She also edited The Rolling Stone Book of Women in Rock.
